Addition of CdCl(2) to the crystals of A...

Addition of `CdCl_(2)` to the crystals of AgCl will produce Schottky defects but the same is not produced when NaCl crystals are added. Discuss.

Text Solution

Two `Ag^(+)` ions will be replance by one `Ca^(2+)` ion to maintain electrical neutrality. A hole gets created in the lattice when every `Ca^(2+)` ion is introduced. This leads to Schottky defect.
