(i) The alkoxy group `(Runderset(* *) overset(* *)O-)` with lone electron pains on the oxygen atom activates the ortho and para positions in the ring by +M(or+R) effect as shown below:

As the ortho group directs the incoming in the ring become paints of high electron density, the electrophiles prefer to attack these positions.
(ii) The alkoxy group directs the incoming group which is an electrophile towards the ortho and para positions in the ring. As a result , a mixture of osomeric products is formed. For details. consult section 24

-NH_2 group …………electron density at ortho-/para-positions of the ring.

Assertion (A) : In monohaloarenes, further electrophilic substitution occurs at ortho- and para- position. Reason (R) : Halogen atom is a ring deactivator.

Why is halogen atom attached to benzene ring ortho and para directing but deactivating in nature?

Assertion (A) : Presence of a nitro group at ortho-or para- position increases reactivity of haloarenes towards nucleophilic substitution. Reason (R) : Nitro group, being an electron withdrawing group decreases the electron density over the bvenzene ring.
