A vessel of volume `2000cm^(3)` contains 0.1mol of oxygen and 0.2mol of carbon dioxide. If the temperature of the mixture is 300K, find its pressure.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We have `p=(nRT)/(V)`.
The pressure due to oxygen is
`p_(1)=((0.1mol)(8.3JK^(-1) mol^(-1)(300K)))/((2000xx10^(-6)m^(-3))=1.25xx10^(5) Pa.
Similarly, the pressure in the vessel is
`p=p_(1)+p_(2)`
`=(1.25+2.50)xx10^(5)Pa=3.75xx10^(5)Pa.`
