Consider the situatioin shown in figure. The system is released from rest and the block of mass 1.0 kg is found to have a speed 0.3 m/s ater it has descended thrugh a distance of 1 m. find the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the table.

The correct Answer is:
A, B

`m_1=4kg, m^2 =1kg, `
`V_2 =0.3m/sec`
`V_1 =2xx(0.3)=0.6m/sec`
(v_1=2x_2`m in this system) `h=1 m=height descent travelled by 1 kg block
S=2xx1=2m`
=distance travelled by 4kg block `u=0`
Applying change in K.E. =work done (for the system) `
(1/2)m_1v_1^2+(1/2)m_2v_2^2=(-muR)S+m_2gh`
[R=4g=40N]`

`rarr 1/2xx4xx(0.36)+1/2xx1xx(0.09)`
` =-mu40xx2+1xx40xx1`
`rarr 0.72+0.045=-80mu+10`
`rarr mu=9.236/80=0.12`

A block of mass m is pushed momentarily along a horizontal surface with an initial velocity u. If mu_k is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the object and surface, find the time at which the block comes to rest.

A block A of mass m_1 rests on a horizontal table . A light string connected to it passes over a frictionless pulley at the edge of table and from its other end another block B of mass m_2 is suspended . The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the table is mu . When the block A is sliding on the table the tension in the string is :

A block is projected along a rough horizontal road with a speed of 10 m/s. If the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.10, how far will it travel before coming to rest?

Figure shows a spring fixed at the bottom end of an incline of inclination 37^0 . A small block of mass 2 kg starts slipping down the incline from a point 4.8 m away from the spring. The block compresses the spring by 20 cm, stops momentarily and then rebounds through a distance of 1 m up the incline. Find a. the frictioin coefficient between the plane and the block and b. the spring constant of the spring. Take g=10 m/s^2 .

Find the acceleration of the block of mass M in the situation of figure. The coefficient of friction between the two blocks is mu_1 and that between the bigger block and the ground is mu_2 .

A block of mass 2.5 kg is kept on a rough horizontal surface. It is found that the block does not slide if a horizontal force less than 15 N is applied to it. Also it is found that it takes 5 seconds to slide through the first 10 m if a horizontal force of 15 N is applied and the block is gently pushed to start the motion. Taking g=10 m/s^2 , calculate the coefficient of static and kinetic friction between the block and the surface.

A body of mass of 3 kg initially at rest wakes under the action of an applied horizontally force of 10 N on a table with co-efficient of kinetic friction = 0.3, then what is the workdone by the applied force in 10 s :

A block of mass 2.00 kg moving at a speed of 10.0 m/s accelerates at 3.0 m/s^2 for 5.00 s. Compute its final kinetic enegy.
