A 50 cm long wire of mass 20 g suports a mass of `1.6 kg ` as shown in figure. Find the fundamental frequency of the portioin of the strig between the wall and the pulley. Take `g=10 ms^-2`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The tension in the string is `F=(1.6kg)(10ms^-2)`
`16N`
The linear mass density is `mu=(20g)/(50cm)=0.04kgm^-1`.
The fundamental frequency is
`v_0=1/(2L)sqrt(F/mu)`
`=1/(2xx(0.4m))sqrt((16N)/(00.4kgm^-2))=25Hz.`
