A gas is enclosed in a cylindrical vessel fitted with a frictionless piston.the gas is slowly heated for some time. During the process, 10 J of heat is supplied and the piston is found to move out 10cm. Find the increase in the internal energy of the gas, the area of cross section of the cylinder=`4 cm^(2)` and the atmospheric pressure `=100 kPa.`

`Delta Q = 10J,DeltaV = Axx10 cm`
` = (4xx10)cm^3 = 40xx10^(-6)m^3`
`Delta W = Pdelta V = 100xx40xx10^(-6)m^3`
` = 4m^3`
`Delta U = ?`
`10 = DeltaU+deltaW `
`rArr 10 = Delta U+4`
`rArr Delta U = 6J

The gas is heated slowly in a process during which a total of 42J heat is given to the gas. if the temperature rise through 2^(o)C , find the distance moved by the piston. atmoshphere pressure =100 kPa.

2.00 mole of a monatomic ideal gas (U=1.5nRT) is enclosed in an adiabatic, fixed , vertical cylinder fitted with a smooth, light adiabatic piston. The piston is connected to a vertical spring of spring constant 200 N m^(-1) as shown in .the area of cross section of the cylinder is 20.0 cm^(2) . initially, the spring is at its natural length and the temperature of the gas is 300K at its natural length. the atmosphere pressure is 100 kPa. the gas is heated slowly for some time by means of an electric heater so as to move the position up through 10 cm. find (a) the work done by the gas (b) the final temperature of the gas and (c ) the heat supplied by the heater.

A gas is enclosed in a cylindrical can fitted with a piston. The walls of the can and the piston are adiabatic. The initial pressure , volume and temperature of the gas are 100 kPa, 400cm^(3) and 300K respectively. In a thermodynamic process, pressure of a fixed mass of a gas is changed in such a manner that the gas releases 30 J of heat and 10 J of work is done on the gas. If the initial internal energy of the gas was 30 J , then the final internal energy will be

An ideal gas is kept in a long cylindrical vessel fitted with a frictionless piston of cross-sectional area 10cm^(2) and weight 1kg.The vessel itself is kept in a big chamber containing air at atmospheric pressure 100kPa. The length of the gas column is 20cm.if the chamber is now completely evacuated by an exhaust pump, what will be the length of the gas column? Assume the tempaerature to remain constant throughout the process.

An ideal monatonic gas is confined in a cylinder by a spring-loaded piston of cross section 8.0xx10^(-3) m^(2). initially the gas is at 300K and occupies a volume of 2.4xx10^(-3)m^(-3) and the sprinng is in its relaxed state. The gas is heated by a small heater until the piston moves out slowly by 0.1m. Calculate the final tempreture of the gas. The force constant if the spring is 8000Nm^(-1) ,and the atmospheric pressure is 1.0xx10^(5)Nm^(-2) . the cylinder and the piston are thermally insulated. The piston and the spring are massless and there is no friction between the piston and the cylinder. Neglect any heat-loss through the lead wires of the heater. The heat capacity of the heater coil is negligible. assume the spring to be massless

In thermodynamic process, pressure of a fixed mass of a gas is changes in such a manner that the gas molecules gives out 20 J of heat and 10 J of work is done in the gas. If the initial internal energy of the gas was 40 J , then the final internal energy will be
