A parallel-plate capacitor has plates of...

A parallel-plate capacitor has plates of area `10cm^(2)` separated by a distance of 1mm. It is filled with the dielectric mica and connected to a battery of emf 6 volts. Find the leakage current through the capacitor. Resistivity of mica`=1xx10^(13)(Omega)m`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The resistance of the mica between the two faces is
`(rho)(l)/(A)=((1xx10^(13)(Omega)m)xx10^(-3)m)/(10.0xx10^(-4)m^(2))`
`=1xx10^(13)(Omega)`.
The leakage current`=6V/1xx10^(13)(Omega))=6xx10^(-13)A.`
