If the wire is connected to the
potentiometer wire so that
` R_AD/R_DB = 8/12 `
then according to Whitstone's bridge, no
currrent will flow through galvano meter.
` R_AD/R_DB = L_AD/L_DB = 8/12 = 2/3 `
(Acc.to principle of potentio meter)
` L_DB+L_DB = 40 cm `
` rArr L_B 2/3 + L_DB = 40 cm `
` rArr 5/3 L_DB = 40 cm `
` rArr L_DB = 40 xx 5/3 `
= 24 cm from B.

A uniform horizontal rod of length 40 cm and mass 1.2 kg is supported by two identical wires as shown in figure. Monochramatic light is incident on the pane interface AB between two media of refractive indices mu_1 and mu_2(mu_2gtmu_1) at an angle of incidence theta as shown in figure. The angle theta is infinitesimally greater thannte critical angle for the two media so thast total internal reflection takes place. Now, if a transparent slab DEFG of uniform thickness and of refractive inde mu_2 is introduced on theinterface (as shown in figure ) , show that for any value of mu_2 all light will ultimately be reflected back into medium II.
