(a) Zygospore (zygote) is the fusion product of two gametes. It infact, represents the resting stage formed after withdrawl of flagella ad formation of a thick wall around the freshly formed zygote. Zygospore is spherical with thick, smootth or stellate wall and contains fats and reserve food materials other than starch. It can resist unfavourable conditions. In Chlamydomonas, zygospore is the resultant of isogamy, anisogamy or oogamy. In Spirogyra sexual reproduction occurs through conjugation, which may be scalariform or lateral.
