The hormones secreted by the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland are:
(a) Vasopressin:
(i) In kidney tubules, it increases reabsorption of water.
(ii) It reduces loss of water through urine and hence the name antidiuretic hormone .
(iii) It is also called as antidiuretic hormone.
(b) Oxytocin:
Helps in the concentration of the smooth muscles of uterus at the time of chidl birth and milk ejection from the mammary gland after child birth.
