A certain current liberated 0.504 g of hydrogen in 2 hours. How many gram of copper can be liberated by the same current flowing for the same time in `CuSO_(4)` solution ?

A

12.7 g

B

15.9 g

C

31.8 g

D

63.5 g

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Equivalent weight of hydrogen = 1.008
Equivalent weight of copper = 31.75
According to faraday.s second law of electrolysis,
`m_1/m_2 = (E )/(E_2)`
`(0.504)/(m_2) = (1.008)/(31.75) or m_2 = (0.504 xx 31.75)/(1.008) = 15.875 g`
