Which is more stable ? `Fe^(3+)` or `Fe^(2+)` - Explain.

The electronic configuration of Fe (atomic no. 26) is `[Ar] 3d^(6)4s^(2)`.
Thus, `Fe^(+2)` has the configuration `[Ar]3d^(6)` and `Fe^(+3)` has the configuration `[Ar]3d^(3)`. Since all the five .d. orbitals, are singly filled, it offers extra stability. Thus `Fe^(+3)` more stable than `Fe^(+2)`.
