How many hours does it take to reduce 3 mole of `Fe^(3+) " to " Fe^(2+)` . With 2 ampere of current ?
(`F = 96500` coulomb)

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The required equation is
` Fe^(3+) + e to Fe^(2+)`
3 mole of `Fe^(3+)` requires 3 mole of electrons .
` :. ` Required charge
` = 3 xx 96500` coloumbs
` = 289500` coloumbs
charge = current `xx` time
`289500 = 2 xx t`
` t = (289500)/2`
` t = 1.475 xx 10^(5)` sec
= 40 hour.
