The reaction of photosynthesis can be grouped into two: Light and Dark reaction.
The reaction involving pigments, solar energy and water that produce ATP and `NADPH_(2)` are called light reaction. The Photosynthetic reactions in which `CO_(2)` is reduced to carbohydrates making use of ATP and `NADPH_(2)` generated by light reaction are called dark reaction.
The overall reaction of photosynthesis can be written as follows:
`CO_(2)+H_(2)O underset("chlorophyll")overset("solar energy")(to)C_(6)H_(12)O_(6)+O_(2)uarr`
