Explanation

The important modern method of plant reproduction includes plant tissue culture. This is based on the principle of totipotency.
The genetic ability of a plant cell to produce the entire plant under suitable conditions is said to be totipotency. This is first demostrated by prof. F.C. Steward in 1932 in carrot plant. The matureed phloem parenchyma cells are grown in a suitable medium under controlled condition. These cells divide in the medium to produce a new carrot plant.
The regeneration of a whole plant from a single cell, tissue or small pieces of vegetative structures through tissue culture is called micropropagation.
