The conservation of living gentic resources like pollen,seeds or tissues of plant material is called germplasm conservation. The purpose of germplasm conservation is to conserve the plant materials for future experiments like selective plant breeding , preservation in live condition and use for many others research work.
The collection and storage of pollen and seeds of plants in seed or pollen banks for maintaining their viability and fertility will help their use in future,such hybrodisation and crop inprovement research works. The gene bank or DNA bank of elite breeding lines plant genetic resources for the maintenance of biodiversity and for food security may be considered as other way of germplasm conservation.
