Artifical seeds are produced by encapsulation of embyoids with sodium alginate or agrose. They have many advantages over true seeds these are as follows.
(i) At a time millions of artifical seeds can be prepared at low cost.
(ii) Genetically engineered plants with desirable character can easily be made through this method.
(iii) the genotype of plant can easily be tested.
(iv) Using cryopreservation technique artifical seeds can be stored easily for long time.
(v) The artifical seeds produce identical plants.
(vi) As the growth of artifical seed is faster with shortened life cycle the dormancy period of these seeds in considerably reduced.
