Shape of pyramid in a particular ecosystem is always different in shape. Explain with example.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The pyramid of number in forest ecosystem is different in shape because of the following:
(i) The base of the pyramid is occupied by large sized trees, which are lesser in number `(T_1)`.
(ii) The fruit eating birds, elephant, deer form herbivores, which are more in number, occupying second trophic level `(T_2)`.
(iii) The lions `(T_4)` are less in number than the secondary `(T_3)` consumer (Fox and Snake) and occupy the final tropic level. Therefore, a spindle shaped pyramid is seen in forest ecosystem.
