Explain ten percent law with an example.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Lindeman in 1942 proposed ten percent law. This law states that when the energy is transferred from one trophic level to another trophic level, only 10% of food energy is stored at every level. The rest of food energy (90%) is lost through respiration, decomposition and in the form of heat. Hence this law is called ten percent law.
