Psychoactive drugs are the drugs from plants that alter individuals perception of mind by producing hallucination.

(i) Marijuana: China is the native place of marijuana. This is legally permitted to cultivate in the states such as Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarkand and Madhya Pradesh.
The scientific name is Cannabis sativa. The active principle in marijuana is trans- tetrahydrocanabinal (THC), which has a number of medicinal properties.
(ii) Opium poppy: The botanical name is Papaver somniferum. It is native to South Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Opium poppy is legally cultivated in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Opium is extracted from the exudates of fruits of poppy plants. Morphine is derived from opium. Morphine is a strong analgestic, which is used in surgery. However, opium is an additive, when taken often. It induces sleep and relieves pain.
