Why are the offsprings of oviparous animals are at a greater risk as compared to offsprings of viviparous organisms?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Oviparous animals lay their eggs and development takes place outside the body of the mother with greater risk of survival, while in viviparous animals, the fertilization and development of embryo takes place inside the body of mother and they are safe when compared t ovoviviprous offspring. Therefore, the offspring of oviparous animals ar of greater risk in the environment as they are predated easily by the enemies, whereas the off springs of viviparous parents are safer under the care of parents, though they are few in number.
