Oxytocin causes the .let - down. reflex and stimulates the alveoli of mammary glands to eject milk. Oxytocin also causes the uterus to contract after birth and helps it to come to the original i.e., pre - pregnancy size. The hormone relaxin is secreated by the placenta during the later phase of pregnancy. This hormone helps in the relaxation of the pelvic ligaments at the time of parturition and makes the delivery of baby easier.
