(i) The well-known physiological adaptations are hibernation and aestiuation.
(ii) Hibernation is an adaptation that helps many animals conserve energy by remaining inactive, greatly slowing their metabolism for few days or weeks or even months. Eg: Bats, Arctic ground squirrel.
(iii) Aestivation is a state of animals dormancy in summer similar to hibernation. Eg: Lungfish.
