Alien species are organisms introduced in a habitat deliberately for commercial purpose or unintentionally or as biological control agents. In both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem, exotic species have proved ,harmful. They often become invasive and drive away local endemic species. They compete with endemic species for food, sheik , and reproduction
Eg: Tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) was introduced in India from South Africa io 1952 fonheir nigh productivity. In Kerala, it became invasive in inland-waters and native species such as Puntiua dubiua and Labeo kontius face local extinction due to alien species introduction. Thus alien species invasion is a threat to endemic species.
