How long will it take for a sound wave of 25 cm wavelength and 1.5 kHz frequency, to travel a distance of 1.5 km?

Text Solution

Frequency (u) = 1.5 kHz
` = 1.5 xx 10 ^(3) Hz`
Wavelength ` (lambda )= 25 cm = 0.25 m`
distance (s) = 1.5 km = ` 1.5 xx 10 ^(3) m`
time (t) = ?
Velocity of sound = Frequency × Wavelength
` v= u lambda `
` v= 1.5 xx 10 ^(3) xx 0.25`
` v= 0.375 xx 10 ^(3)`
` v= 375 m//s`
` " Time "= (" Distance ")/(" Velocity") `
` t= ( s)/(v) = (1.5 xx 10^(3))/(375 ) = (1500 )/(375 ) = 4s `
The sound wave takes 4 s to travel the distance of 1.5 km.
