Which of the following buffer solutions ...

Which of the following buffer solutions turns invalid on addition of 10 mL of 1.0 M HCl?

A

100 mL of buffer solution having 0.15 M `NH_(3) and NH_(4)Cl` each

B

100 mL of buffer solution having 0.2 M `NH_(3) and NH_(4)Cl` each

C

100 mL of buffer solution having 0.2 M `NH_(3) and 0.1 MNH_(4)Cl`

D

100 mL of buffer solution having 0.5 M `NH_(3) and 0.1 MNH_(4)Cl`

The correct Answer is:
D

Millimoles of `NH_(3) = 100 xx 0.05 = 5` millimoles
Added `HCl = 10 xx1.0 M = 10` millimoles
`NH_(3)` gets completely neutralised it means solution turns acidic so, that.s not the buffer solution since HCl and `NH_(4)Cl` will be left.
