How is food transported in plants?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The prepared food is transported in the plants through phloem to the storage organs of roots, fruits, seeds and growing parts. This process is called translocation. This fiction is done by sieve tubes and companion cells. The of food particles takes place upward and downward.
Mechanism of translocation is an active process that energy. Materials are transferred from leaf cells or the site of storage into phloem tissue. For this, energy required which is provided by the ATP molecules. This energy increases the osmotic pressure, as a result, water outside moves into the phloem. This pressure maintains movement of food through all the parts of plants.
