Given veca=hati+2hatj and vecb=2hati+hat...

Given `veca=hati+2hatj and vecb=2hati+hatj` what are the magnitudes of the two vectors? Are these two vectors equal?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`abs(veca)=sqrt(1^2 + 2^2)=sqrt5`
`abs(vecb)=sqrt(2^2 + 1^2)=sqrt5`
The magnitudes of `veca and vecb` are equal. However, their corresponding components are not equal i.e., `a_x ne b_x and a_y ne b_y`. Hence, the two vectors are not equal.
