An aeroplane is travelling northward with a velocity of 300 km/hr with respect to the Earth. Wind is blowing from east to west at a speed of 100 km/hr. What is the velocity of the aeroplane with respect to the wind?

Let the velocity of the aeroplane with respect to Earth be `vecV_(AE)` velocity of wind with respect to Earth be `vecV_(WE)`. The velocity of aeroplane with respect to wind, `vecV_(AW)` can be determined by the following expression:
`vecV_(AW) = vecV(AE) + vecV_(EW) = vecV_(WE) = - 100 hati +300 hatj`,
considering north along +y axis. Magnitude of `vecV_(AW) =sqrt((10000+ 90000)) = 100 sqrt10 km//hr`, and its direction,
`theta = tan^(-1) (300/(-100)) = 71.6^@` is towards north east.
