The gravitational force between two bodi...

The gravitational force between two bodies is 1 N. If distance between them is doubled, what will be the gravitational force between them?

Let the masses of the two bodies be `m_1 and m_2` and the distance between them be r.
The force between them, `F_1 = (Gm_1m_2)/(r^2)`
When the distance between them is doubled the force becomes`F_2 = (Gm_1m_2)/((2r)^2) = (Gm_1m_2)/(4r^2)`
` therefore F_1/F_2 = (Gm_1m_2)/(r^2) xx (4r^2)/(Gm_1m_2)`
` therefore F_1/F_2 = 4`
` therefore F_2 = 1/4N `
`F_2 = 0.25N`
` therefore ` Force become one forth (0.25 N)
