A monkey climbs 30 feet at the beginning of each hour and rests for while he slips back 20 feet before he again starts climbing in the beginning of the next hour. If he begins his ascent at 8.00 at what time will he first touch a flag at 120 feet from the ground?

According to the questions the monkey climbs 10 feet i.e. (30-20) feet in 1 hour [ `:.` He slips back 20 feet]
So he will climbs 90 feet in 9 hours
i.e at (8.00 a.m. + 9hours) =5.00 p.m.
[ `:.` Ascent time begins at 8.00 a.m]
Therefore required time to touch a flat at 120 feet i.e.
(90 feet +30 feet) from the ground
=5.00 pm + 1 hour =6.00 p.m.
[ At the beginning of each hour, he climbs 30 feet]
