Honeybees are social and polymorphic insects: They are of three main types
(i) Queen It is fertile female. It is diploid as it develops from a fertilised egg. It feeds on royal jelly. It has well -develped ovary for laying eggs.
(ii) Drone It is a fertile male. It is haploid as it develops from unfertilised with queen.
(iii) Worker It is a sterile female> It is diploid. They are workers of beehives. Worker bees have some specific structure such as long proboscis to collect nectar pollen basket to collect pollen, wax secreting glands in abdomen to secrate wax and powerful sting for defence.
