The Indian Parliament has recently passed the second amendment to the Indian Patents Bill that takes action against biopiracy. In India, the Parent Act was enacted in 1970 to protect their resources and traditional knowledge from being exploited by other countries. This act has undergone many amendments in 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2006. The Indian biosafety network is headed by the Department of Biotechnology.
