Genetically Modified Organism (GMO)
A GMO is one, whose genetic material has been altered by genetic engineering. The first GMO was Created by Herbert Boyer and Stanley Cohen in 1973. Many GMOs have been created for the benefit of mankind. For gene transfer, specific techniques are used for recipient cells.
These include microinjection for animal cells while electroporation for plant cells. The transgenes can be transferred alone or in conjuction with a vector or carrier DNA
