The term .single cell protein. refers to microbial biomass which acts as a source of mixed protein. Microbes like Spirulina, also known as "single-cell protein. can be grown easily on materials like wastewater from potato processing plants (containing starch), straw, molasses, etc, to produce large quantities of food rich in proteins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates and vitamins. Such utilisation of waste materials also reduces environmental pollution
