Find the percentage of carbon dioxide ...

Find the percentage of carbon dioxide in calcium carbonate . [Give : Atomic masses Ca = 40 ,C=12 , and O = 16 ]

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Molecular formula : `CaCO_(3)`
Molecular mass ` = 1 xx 40 + 1 xx 12 + 3 xx 16`
` = 40 + 12 + 48 = 100`
i.e., 100 parts of calcium carbonate contains 44 parts of carbon dioxide .
`therefore` % carbon dioxide = 44
