The correct Answer is:
D

In IVF method, popularly known as test tube baby programme, ova form the wife/donor (female) and sperms from the husband/donor (male) are collected in the laboratory. The zygote or early embryos (with upto 8 blastomeres) could be tranferred into the Fallopian tube (ZIFT) and embryos with more than 8 blastomeres into the uterus (IUT). This is in vitro fertilisation (IVF - fertilisation outside the body in almost similar conditions as that in the body) followed by embryo transfer (ET)

______involves the transfer of embryo at 8 -celled stage in the fallopian tube of the female.

Read the given statements and select the correct option Statement 1 : Transfer of an ovum collected from a donor into the Fallopian tube of another female who cannot produce an ovum, is called as GIFT Statement 2 : Transfer of early embryos with upto 8 blastomeres into the Fallopian tube of the female, is called ZIFT.

Which two of the following statements are incorrect regarding in vitro fertilisation ? (i) In this method, ova from the wife/donor female and sperms from the husband/donor male are induced to form zygote in the uterus (ii) If the embryo is having 2 blastomeres, it is transferred into the uterus (iii) If the embryo is with more than 8 blastomeres, it is transferred into the uterus. (iv) The baby thus produced is called test tube baby.

Assertion : IVF is fertilisation outside the body of woman Reason : The zygote upto 8 blastomeres could be transferred into the Fallopian tube

Assertion : In MOET, hormones with progesterone-like activity are given to the cow for inducing super-ovulation. Reason : After mating the embryos at 4-6 celled stage are recovered and transferred to surrogate mother.

Assertion : Downstream processing is generally considered more difficult and costlier in plants than that in microbes. Reason : Rhizosecretion is used as a method to facilitate easier recovery of recombinant proteins from plants.

Assertion : The method of development of embryo sac from a single functional megaspore is termed as monosporic development. Reason : In monosporic (Polygonum) type of embryo sac development, usually the megaspore which is situated towards micropylar end remains functional.

Assertion : Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a procedure to form a embryo in vitro Reason : In ICSI, sperm is directly injected into the ovum.

Assertion : In angiosperms, endosperm development precedes embryo development. Reason : Double fertilisation ensures that the nutritive tissue is formed before the zygotes starts cleaving so that the energy spent on the formation of endosperm does not get wasted.

Consider the following statements. (i) Polyspermy may bring about fertilisation of egg by more than one male nucleus or the supernumerary sperms may fertilise other components of embryo sac much as synergids or antipodals. (ii) In angiosperms, pollen tube is normally an unbranched structure which ususally persists after fertilisation. (iii) Intine is the inner, pectocellulosic layer of pollen grain wall which is destroyed during acetolysis. (iv) Exine layer of pollen grain comprises of an outer non-sculptured layer sexine and an inner sculptured layer tectum. Which of the following combinations of above given statements is correct ?
