Assertion : An organ transplant patient if not provided with cyclosporin A may reject the transplanted organ.

The correct Answer is:
A

Cyclosporin A is cyclic oligipeptide obtained through fermentative activity of fungus Trichoderma polysporum. It has immunosuppressive properties and inhibits activation of T-cells. T cells of immune system mainly function to kill non-self cells. Because cyclosporin A inhibits T cell function, it caused immunosuppression and chances of rejection of transplanted organ are reduced. Thus, organ transplant patients are provided with cyclosporin A.

Assertion : Artificially acquired passive immunity results when antibodies or lymphocytes produced outside the host are introduced into a host. Reason : A bone marrow transplant given to a patient with genetic immunodeficiency is an example of artificially acquired active immunity.

Name a fungus that produces bioactive molecule cyclosporin A which is used as an immuno suppressive agents in organ-transplant patient.

Transplantation of tissues/organs to save certain patients often fails due to rejection of such tissues/organs by the patient. Which type of immune response is responsible for such rejections?

ul("Antibody-mediated immunity") helps the body to differentiate between self and non-self cells during organ transplantation.
