The correct Answer is:
D

Let the no. of shoestrips = x
Then, the no. of packet pins = 4x
So, the no. of handkerchiefs = 8x
Cost of shoestrips = `x xx x =x^2`
So, cost of packet pins = `4x xx 4x = 16x^2`.
Cost of handkerchiefs = `8x xx 8x = 64x^2`.
Then, according to the question
`x^2 + 16x^2 + 64x^2 = Rs. 3.24`
or, `x^2 + 16x^2 + 64x^2 = 324` paise
[`because` 1 Rupee `to` 100 paise]
or, `81x^2 = 324`
or, `x^2 = 4 `
or, `x = 2`
So, the number of shoestrips = x= 2
The no. of packet pins = `4x = 4 xx 2 = 8`
Therefore, the number of handkerchiefs
`= 8x = 8 xx 2 = 16 `
