Leaves of a healthy potted plant were coated with vaseline . Will this plant remain healthy for long ? Give reasons for your answer.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

This plant will not remain healthy for a long time because :
(i) Layer of vaseline would make an impermeable layer on the leaves and it will not get oxygen for respiration.
(ii) This would close the stomata and would stop exchange of gases and transpiration and the leaves won.t be able to get the necessary raw materials for photosynthesis.
(iii) It will not get carbon dioxide for photosynthesis, thus the plant would not be able to prepare its food. The plant would die a slow death.
