Verified by Experts

Ozone `(O_(3))` is a molecule formed by three atoms of oxygen. It is a deadly poison. However, at the higher levels of the atmosphere, ozone performs an essential function. It shields the surface of the Earth from ultraviolet (UV) radiations emitted by the sun.
These radiations are very dangerous for living organisms. They are known to cause skin cancer, cataract and weakening of immune system in human beings. They also destroy plants and reduce photosynthesis process.
