Although coal and petroleum are produced by degradation of bio-mass, yet we need to conserve them. Why?

Degradation of biomass, over a period of millions of years, under high pressure without oxygen, results into the formation of fossil fuels that is coal and petroleum. As these resources are being utilised at a much faster rate than their formation, they are likely to be exhausted in near future, hence they need to be conserved.
