The Ganga runs its course of over 2500 k...

The Ganga runs its course of over 2500 km from Gangotri in the Himalayas to Ganga Sagar in the Bay of Bengal. It is being turned into a drain by more than a hundred towns and cipes in Uth Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal that pour their garbage and excreta into it. Largely untreated sewage is dumped into the Ganges everyday. In addition, think of the pollution caused by other human activities like bathing, washing of clothes and immersion of ashes or unburnt corpses. And then, industries contribute chemical effluents to the Ganga's pollution load and the toxicity kills fish in large sections of the river.
Namami Gange Programme is an Integrated Conservation Mission approved as a Flagship Programme by the Union Government in June, 2014. It was launched to accomplish the twin objectives of effective abatement of pollution conservation and rejuvenation of River Ganga.

The correct Answer is:
To determine which factors are responsible for polluting the Ganga River, we can analyze the information provided in the question and the video transcript step by step. ### Step-by-Step Solution: 1. **Identify the Source of Pollution**: - The Ganga River is being polluted by various sources, including towns and cities in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. **Hint**: Look for specific activities or substances mentioned that contribute to pollution. 2. **Examine the Types of Waste**: - The transcript mentions that these towns and cities pour their garbage and excreta into the river. This indicates that solid waste and human waste are significant contributors to the pollution. **Hint**: Consider both solid and liquid waste when identifying pollution sources. 3. **Consider Untreated Sewage**: - It is stated that largely untreated sewage is dumped into the Ganges every day. This untreated sewage is a major pollutant that affects the water quality. **Hint**: Think about how sewage treatment processes can mitigate pollution. 4. **Include Other Human Activities**: - Other activities such as bathing, washing clothes, and the immersion of ashes or unburnt corpses also contribute to the pollution of the Ganga River. **Hint**: Reflect on everyday activities that might seem harmless but can have a significant environmental impact. 5. **Industrial Contributions**: - The transcript also mentions that industries contribute chemical effluents to the Ganga, which further increases the pollution load and harms aquatic life. **Hint**: Consider the role of industrial waste in environmental pollution. 6. **Conclusion**: - Given that all these factors (excreta, untreated sewage, and garbage) contribute to the pollution of the Ganga River, the correct answer to the question is **D. all of these**. **Hint**: When faced with multiple-choice questions, evaluate each option against the information provided to find the most comprehensive answer. ### Final Answer: D. all of these
