Which of the following substances will not give carbon dioxide on treatment with dilute acid ?

A

Marble

B

Limestone

C

Baking soda

D

Lime

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Lime will not give carbon dioxide `(CO_(2))` on treatment with dilute acid because lime is calcium oxide which gives salt and water on reaction with acids but no `CO_(2)`. On the other hand, marble, limestone and baking soda are metal carbonates and bicarbonates which forms `CO_(2)` on treatment with acids.
