What happens when nitric acid is added to egg shell ?

Egg shells contain calcium carbonate. When nitric acid is added to it, carbon dioxide gas is evolved. The reaction can be given as:
`CaCO_(3) + 2HNO_(3) rarr Ca(NO_(3))_(2) + H_(2)O + CO_(2)`
