A stone of 3 kg is thrown vertically upward with an initial speed of 20 m/s. If `g = 10 m//s^2`, then find the kinetic energy and potential energy after 1 s.

A

600, 1800

B

600,0

C

100, 500

D

150, 450

The correct Answer is:
D

From equation,
`v = u - g t`
`v = 20 - 10 xx 1`
`= 10 m//s`
KE after `1s (K_2) = 1/2 mv^2`
`= (1/2) xx 3 xx 10 xx 10 = 150 J`
Initial `KE (K_1) = (3 xx 20 xx 20)/(2) = 600 J`
`because K_1 + U_1 = K_2 + U_2`
`600 + 0 = 150 + U_2`
`therefore U_2 = 600 - 150 = 450 J`
