Aluminium has a greater affinity for oxygen, hence oxide is not reduced by carbon. MgO, CaO (formed in the calcination from carbonates) are stable pieces and not reduced by carbon. `SnO_(2), Fe_(2)O_3` can be reduced by carbon as follows, `SnO_2 + 2C rarr Sn + 2 CO 2 Fe_(2)O_3 + 3C rarr 4 Fe + 3 CO_2`
