Assertion : During embryo development in dicots, suspensor serves as the main nutritive tissue for the embryo.
Reason : The last cell of the suspensor at the end adjacent to the embryo is known as haustorium.

A

B

D

If both assertion and reason are false

The correct Answer is:
d

During embryo development in dicots, the suspensor cell divides transversely a few times to produce a filamentous suspensor of 6-10 cells. The first cell of suspensor towards the micropylar end becomes swollen and functions as haustorium whereas the last cell of suspensor at the end adjacent of the embryo is knowns as hypophysis . The function of the suspensor is to anchor the embryo to the embryo sac and push it deep into the endosperm so that the embryo lies in a nutritionally favourale enviornment.

Assertion : In angiosperms, endosperm development precedes embryo development. Reason : Double fertilisation ensures that the nutritive tissue is formed before the zygotes starts cleaving so that the energy spent on the formation of endosperm does not get wasted.

Assertion : Embryogenesis is the development of embryo from the zygote. Reason : Cell division increase the number of cells in the developing embryo.

Assertion : Ex-albuminous seeds do not possess any residual endosperm, as it is completely consumed during embryo development., Reason : Wheat, castor, pea and groundnut are all the examples of ex-albuminous seeds.

Assertion: The callus cells undergo redifferentation and produce somatic embryos. Reason: The embryoids are sub cultured to produce plantlets.

(A) Draw the embryo sac of a flowering plant and label (i) central cell (ii) chalazal end of the embryo sac and (iii ) synergids. (b) Name the cell that develops into the embryo sac and explain how this cell leads to the formation of embryo sac. Also mention the role played by the various cells of the embryo sac .

Assertion : The method of development of embryo sac from a single functional megaspore is termed as monosporic development. Reason : In monosporic (Polygonum) type of embryo sac development, usually the megaspore which is situated towards micropylar end remains functional.

An embryologist interested in studying the morphogenetic movements in chick embryo, during 3 cells layer stage of the embryo, added some vital stains as embryonic fate markers (embryonic fate markers usually stain the cells and in future development of embryo the stained cells differen tiate into developing organ. Thus the movement of the cell can be traced). He gave the upper layer green colour, middle layer orange and innermost layer blue. a. Name the 3 layers mentioned above. b. Based on your knowledge regarding the development of an embryo predict three organs with these respective colours.

Assertion : In MOET, hormones with progesterone-like activity are given to the cow for inducing super-ovulation. Reason : After mating the embryos at 4-6 celled stage are recovered and transferred to surrogate mother.

Assertion : In Cocos nucifera coconut water represents the cellular endosperm and the surrounding white kernel represents the free-nuclear endosperm. Reason : Endosperm is always completely consumed by developing embryo before seed maturation.

Assertion: In Taenia solium the gravid proglottids are regularly cut off either singly or in groups from the posterior end by a process caled apolysis. Reason: If helps in transferring the developed embryos from the primary host (man) to find a secondary host (pig).
