A double stranded DNA has 30 per cent of Guanine, What will be the percentage of Cytosine?

A

90

B

60

C

20

D

30

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

According to Chargaff.s rule, equal ratio of purines (Adenine and Guanine) and pyrimidines (Cytosine and Thymine) are present in DNA molecules. Therefore, the number of cytosine molecules will be equal to the number of guanine molecules as well as the number of adenine molecules are equal to thymine molecules.
Thus, Percentage of Thymine = Percentage of Adenine Percentage of Cytosine = Percentage of Guanine.
