It contains DNA (genetic material) which is responsible for controlling and directing all the activities of the cell.
The nucleolus within the nucleus is the site for RNA synthesis as well as DNA replication.
Protein synthesis which takes place by ribosomes is also formed by the nucleus.
As nuclei are serving major roles in the survival of the cell, cell dies or cannot survive for a longer period without nuclei.
